Leavenworth, Washington

By now you’ve probably heard of Leavenworth, Washington. A little Bavarian inspired village nestled in the cascade mountains. Each Christmas season the charming little town is covered in Christmas lights as far as the eye can see. I fell in love with Leavenworth the first time I visited, so Ive made it a tradition to visit each December since. Here is a guide to one of my favorite places in all of the Pacific Northwest.

When to go:

Leavenworth is gorgeous all year round, in winter it turns into a stunning Christmas village and in summer it is a hot destination for outdoor lovers with hiking, rafting and brewery hopping. If you're hoping to go during the Christmas season to catch the lights, you're in luck! The lights are up a lot longer than you might think. Leavenworth is magically lit from Thanksgiving all the way to Valentines day! Every weekend throughout December you can attend the Christmas lighting festival and be apart of all the holiday festivities. If you're like me and would like to avoid the crowds, I highly recommend going midweek if you can. Traffic is a lot lighter, accommodation is not as expensive and you can walk around town without being elbow to elbow with other people.

Where to stay:

While Ive stayed at many places around Leavenworth, Enzian Inn is just hands down my favorite! I would highly recommend staying somewhere in town so that you don't have to worry about driving and parking your car, especially if you do go during the weekend. Enzian Inn is just a short walk from town, great view of the lights, and some of the most comfortable hotel beds Ive ever slept in. If you're feeling a dip in the pool, you've got two to pick from. Along with two hot tubs, one outdoor and one indoor. If the friendly staff and cozy Bavarian decor doesn't make you fall in love, the alphorn playing during the best buffet breakfast with made to order omelets sure will!

Where to eat:

Leavenworth is full of good spots to eat, so here are a few of my go-to spots when Im in town are:

The Loft: Best poutine in the PNW!

Blewett Brewing: Highly recommend doing a flight, and the Dalancey pizza was phenomenal!

Icicle Coffee & Chocolates: Fudge made in house that was to die for! I love that we could stop in while shopping and grab a coffee. Awesome selection of steins, locally made chocolate to take home and fun wall art and stickers by Scotty and Calvin Designs.

Das Sweet Shoppe: Stop in here to make all your sweet tooth dreams come true. They have everything from ice cream, to nostalgia candy, to jaw breakers of various sizes. I can never leave town without a stop by Das Sweet Shoppe!

J5 Coffee: My first stop in the morning is usually coffee! If we are already out and about then we go to their location on front street. Its a cute coffee window on your way to sight see and check out all of the great shops. Down the road on 9th St you can find their main location. I love checking out all of their gift, mostly from local PNW companies also!
